Another incident that brought Moore shame includes the time she said Kutcher took a drunken photo of her in Mexico. Moore wrote of her “gradual downward spiral” during her 45th birthday trip across the border. Although Moore said the women who participated in the threesomes were “good people,” she called the experiences “a mistake.”

But for Moore, this marriage was quite a bit different from her previous ones. First, there was her perception of how she needed to change herself to please her younger husband. Second, according to Moore, Kutcher was not exactly supportive of her efforts at maintaining her long-term sobriety. At one point, she recalls him saying, “I don’t know if alcoholism’s a thing. I think it’s about moderation.”  So to appease his misconception about her disease, she relapsed and started drinking again, ending twenty years of sobriety. Importantly, she also sought help for the other health problems that were plaguing her, namely autoimmune and digestive problems. The scariest moment of Moore’s downward relapse spiral happened seven years ago, when she was rushed to the hospital after suffering a seizure at a birthday party she attended with Rumer. Moore had  smoked synthetic marijuana and inhaled nitrous oxide, also known as “whip-its”. Moore would later say that she felt as if she was “going into the light”, reminiscent of scenes from Ghost. “Because we had brought in a third party into our relationship, Ashton said, that blurred the lines and, to some extent, justified what he’s done,” Moore wrote of her former husband’s alleged cheating. The 56-year-old actress, who rose to fame in the ’80s, has battled substance abuse for decades and opens up about her struggles in her recently released memoir Inside Out. She told the New York Times in September that during the early days of her relationship with Ashton Kutcher, she suffered a miscarriage, after which she relapsed. In 2012, Ashton filed for divorce after seven years of marriage. That year, while partying with her and ex-husband Bruce Willis’ daughter Rumer Willis, Demi suffered a seizure after smoking synthetic cannabis and inhaling nitrous oxide.

According to the Biography Channel, Dan and Virginia “were alcoholics who often fought and beat each other.” Virginia would eventually be arrested multiple times, including charges for arson and drunk-driving. She tried to commit suicide several times,  and after one attempt, young Demi even had to scoop pills out of her mother’s mouth to save her life. The actress was offered over $12 million for her role in Striptease, which was more money than any other woman in Hollywood had ever been offered at the time. Jane, another film Moore was pegged for, got into a bidding war to see who could get Moore to film first.
